Getting started

How do I download SideQuestr?

SideQuestr is currently in open beta on TestFlight. Tap here to join the beta. You’ll need Apple’s free TestFlight app installed to run it. Android isn’t supported yet.

How do I sign in?

You can sign in with Apple, Google, or email. Sign in with Apple is the fastest — one tap and you’re in.

How do I set up my profile?

After your first sign-in, you’ll be asked for a display name, a handle (used by friends to find you), and optionally your zipcode so the map can center on your area.

Spots & visits

How do I add a spot?

Tap the “+” button on the map. Drop a pin, pick a category, upload a photo, and write a short description. Your spot appears on the map for you and the community.

How does location work?

SideQuestr uses your location in “When In Use” mode only — never in the background. We use it for two things: centering the map on you, and verifying that you’re within 100 meters of a spot when you check in. Only the lat/lng at the moment you confirm a check-in is stored. Why won’t my visit verify?

SideQuestr only counts a visit when you’re within 100 meters of the spot. If your check-in fails, you’re probably too far away, or GPS is struggling indoors. Step outside and try again. Still stuck? Email sidequestr.support@gmail.com.

Can I add a photo or caption to a visit?

Yes — both are optional. You can also add a thumbs-up or thumbs-down after verifying the visit.

Friends

How does finding friends work?

SideQuestr can match your contacts with people who already use the app. Your contacts are hashed on your device before anything is sent — raw phone numbers never leave your phone. Full details in the Privacy Policy.

I synced my contacts but no friends showed up.

That’s expected if none of your contacts are on SideQuestr yet — it’s still a small beta. Invite a friend: tap the Friends tab, tap Invite, and share your profile link.

Account

How do I reset my account?

To reset your profile (display name, handle, avatar), open the app and go to Settings → Profile. To fully reset the account, delete it (below) and sign up again. If you’re locked out, email sidequestr.support@gmail.com with the email on your account.

How do I delete my account?

Open the app, go to Settings → Account → Delete Account. Your profile, spots, visits, and hashed contact data are removed. You can also email sidequestr.support@gmail.com to request deletion.

Troubleshooting

I tapped an invite link and it opened Safari instead of the app.

Universal Links can take a few tries after a fresh install. Try long-pressing the link — iOS should show “Open in SideQuestr” as an option. Or open the app first, then tap the link from another message. Still broken? Email sidequestr.support@gmail.com.

How do I report a bug?

Email sidequestr.support@gmail.com with your iOS version, app version, and steps to reproduce. Screenshots or screen recordings help a lot.

How do I contact support?

Email sidequestr.support@gmail.com. Replies usually within a day or two.
